Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we get most, answered honestly. If something isn't covered here, your call is the place to ask it.

About the method

How is this different from other Qur'an reading programs?

Most programs teach the alphabet by shape, grouping letters that look alike. That was designed for children in a madrasah centuries ago. The German Method sequences the 28 letters by how easy they are to pronounce and how often they appear in the Qur'an. You learn one letter at a time, train it, and move on - and by lesson 19 you're reading actual Qur'an verses, using only letters you've already learned.

What if I have zero Arabic background?

Most of our students start at zero. The first twenty of the 28 letters are sounds that already exist in English, Spanish, and German. You can already pronounce them - you just don't know the symbols yet.

How long does it take to read the Qur'an?

First Qur'an words within about 2 weeks at 15 minutes a day; first verses by lesson 19, around 2 months in; fluent, correct reading in around 6 months for committed students. Real-world timelines often run longer because life happens - and you keep lifetime access either way.

What if I miss a week, a month, or longer?

You have lifetime access. Pause, come back, and pick up exactly where you left off. No shame. No starting over.

Is the program in English?

Yes. The English version is delivered in English, led by Sam Burr — an English convert with a full Arabic Language degree from the University of London.

About the teaching

Who teaches the live classes?

Westerners who learned to read the Qur'an as adults. They were once exactly where you are, and they know the specific pronunciation challenges English-speaking adults face - especially the letters Western tongues struggle with.

What happens in a live class?

Classes run 5 days a week, with multiple slots to cover UK and North American time zones. You join by video, read aloud, and the teacher listens, corrects, and answers questions. Classes are small enough that everyone gets attention.

What if I'm shy about reading in front of others?

Almost everyone feels this on day one, and every teacher has been there. By the third or fourth class the embarrassment is gone - the room is full of adults at the same level, making the same mistakes, getting corrected together. You can also start one-on-one if group classes feel like too much at first; we'll discuss it on the call.

Who it's for

I'm a parent - can my kids use this too?

The program includes household access for one additional person - usually a spouse or child - and we offer family expansion options for more children. Bring it up on your call and we'll work out a plan.

I'm in my 60s or 70s - am I too old?

No. We have students in their 70s who have graduated from zero. If you can give it 15 minutes a day, age isn't your problem.

I'm new to Islam - is this for me?

Yes. Marcel and Sam are both English-speaking reverts who taught themselves the hard way. The method was built specifically for the Western adult learning Arabic from zero - convert or born-Muslim. Many of our students are reverts.

I'm a woman - are there female teachers?

Yes. Sisters are paired with female teachers for live classes and feedback, with the same flexible timing - especially helpful when you're balancing work, household, and family.

Practical & logistical

How does the time commitment work?

Around 15 minutes a day is the baseline. Spread it out - five before work, five at lunch, five before bed - or do it in one sitting. The flexibility is built into the design.

Can I use this on my phone, tablet, and laptop?

Yes - video lessons, the practice app, and live classes all work across devices. Most students use a phone for practice on the go and a laptop for live classes at home.

What's included?

60 lessons (one letter, one rule each) · short video lessons · gamified practice app · live classes 5 days a week · a weekly call with a learning psychologist · Saturday motivation coaching · 7-day-a-week WhatsApp support · a customer success manager · lifetime access · household access for a second person · a branded welcome pack with roadmap, bookmark, and methodology pamphlet.

When does the next cohort start?

There are no traditional cohorts - the program runs continuously, and your team is assembled to your schedule when you enrol. We do limit enrolment to protect teacher-to-student ratios. We'll discuss start dates on your call.

Investment & guarantee

What does it cost?

We discuss the investment on the call, because there are a few enrolment structures - pay-in-full, instalment, and household options - and the right one depends on your timing, your family, and your goals. We'd rather understand your situation than pretend one number fits everyone.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes - there's a guarantee for committed students who attend live classes and complete the work. Because the exact conditions matter, we walk through them with you on the call rather than in fine print here.

I can't commit financially right now. What should I do?

Then don't apply for the call yet. This is a high-investment program. Sign up for our weekly content (free) and come back when the season is right. We're not going anywhere.

How this compares

vs. Bayyinah, Quran Companion, Noorani Qaida (apps)?

Apps are built to maximise streaks and engagement. There's no one correcting your pronunciation, so you can practise the wrong sound for six months and never know. The German Method puts a live teacher in the room with you, 5 days a week.

vs. my local mosque or madrasah?

Mosque classes are usually fixed evenings, mixed-age, built for children and reliant on perfect attendance - miss two Tuesdays and you're behind, and the embarrassment keeps most adults from coming back. The German Method is asynchronous lessons plus live classes you can join whenever you're ready to read. Built for adults with real lives.

vs. a 1-on-1 Zoom tutor?

Most tutors are excellent people using a method built for a child in another country, and they cost a fortune ($50–$100/hour) - you progress only as fast as you can afford their time. You get the live-teacher relationship, the structured curriculum, and the gamified practice at a fraction of that cost over the same period.

About the call

What happens on the call?

About 30 minutes, 1-on-1 with someone who teaches this every day. We understand your level, map the method to your life, and determine fit. If it's not a fit, we'll tell you honestly. No high-pressure selling.

Will I have to pay on the call?

Only if you decide it's right for you, and only after you've heard the full structure. No "now-or-never" pressure.

What if I'm not ready to decide on the call?

Completely fine. You'll leave with everything you need to think it through, and you can come back when you're ready. We'd rather you start when you're truly committed.

Still have questions? Ask them on your call.
